My name is Mike Schnall, I am a Software Engineer and former database manager, sales rep, and combat soldier.

In the past few years I was pursuing a degree in Economics while working full time for a luxury travel company. While at the company, I created a database that reduced manual data-entry and automated reports. The process was so fulfilling that I decided to pursue software engineering full time.

About Me

I graduated App Academy, an immersive 16 week tech-bootcamp for full stack web development. During the program I was spending 80-100 hours per week programming and learning new languages every few days. While in the program, I created two solo projects and one group project that were built using technologies including: JavaScript, React, Redux, HTML, CSS, Sass, Ruby, Rails, MongoDB, Node.js, Express.js, SQL, and many more.

The program molded me into a confident software engineer.

Chord Pro Generator

An app for songwriters that generates unique randomized chord progressions/songs. Created using MongoDB, Express, React, and Redux.

  • Designed unique algorithms that dynamically create songs that display as sheet music to assist songwriters.
  • Utilized Github to harmoniously collaborate with a team of four to create the entire website within a short 4-day deadline.
  • Combined my knowledge of music-theory and programming to design and implement a complex and dynamic song generator.

    EXPLODING HOT POTATO SOCCER!

    A soccer game played in a rectangular grid with two goals, two avatars, and a hot-potato/ball that explodes after a random amount of time.

  • Implemented vector-logic on the game-ball to enable users to manipulate ball direction and create a smooth gameplay experience.
  • Employed Sprite-images using Javascript and CSS to manipulate character animation for on-screen enhanced UI and UX.
  • Constructed a custom javascript algorithm that displays a moving-explosion image to the UI for an enhanced user experience.

    A clone of Facebook created using Ruby on Rails, React (+hooks), and Redux.

  • Leveraged AWS to incorporate upload ability of media in posts, bio photos, and cover photos for a vitalizing UI esthetic.
  • Ensured full CRUD ability on users’ posts and bios, optimizing the customizability of the features.
  • Incorporated dynamic Sass variables and mixins for efficient, dynamic, and DRY front-end code.
